This is how you can check NFTs’ Metadata on OpenSea!

As you may recall, and as part of BLACK LEMON’s Academy, we have previously covered what NFTs’ metadata is and how they work. You can click on the link on the bottom of the picture below to read all about metadata.

However, it is also common for you to wonder how you can find them and where? This is what we’re about to unveil to you in this article!

So, let’s have a small recap!

NFT metadata, in a nutshell, lists the specifications for and the details of an NFT's stored data. It may hold information such as the NFT's name, description, transaction history, connection to the hosted image, characteristics, and much more.

The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format is standard for specifying metadata. On the other hand, inside the smart contract, the data is kept as a Universal Resource Identifier (URI), as storing it as JSON would be resource-intensive. However, users have the freedom to download NFT metadata.

OpenSea in the NFT scene!

Marketplaces which allows users to create, transfer, and monetize their assets are required as a result of the enormous demand for NFTs. The resources for these activities, which are so important for maintaining the NFT movement, are provided by the markets. OpenSea NFT marketplace is at the top of the list.

The first and largest NFT marketplace in the world, OpenSea, allows users to launch their own NFT collections for sale on the platform. OpenSea offers the facilities for minting, listing, and trading NFTs, streamlining the complex procedures necessary for managing and making money off of NFTs. OpenSea, which was initially created to support CryptoKitties, has evolved into the preferred marketplace for NFT participants.

So, how can you find NFTs’ metadata on OpenSea?

It's easy to check metadata on OpenSea. Let's concentrate on locating metadata of NFTs based on Ethereum for simplicity of understanding. First, locate the NFT you want to get the metadata of, then open it. Second, scroll down and click on the “Details” tab and click the link next to the contract address.

Third, in the Etherscan link that pops up on the screen, copy the contract address. After that, you enter api.opensea.io/asset/ in the URL text box and paste the contract address copied, followed by the token ID specified in the contract details, after the slash at the end of the URL. And there you have it!

On the screen, JSON-formatted metadata is displayed. One uses an appropriate blockchain explorer to obtain the contract address in order to find the metadata of NFTs hosted on other blockchains. For example, if the NFT is featured on the Solana blockchain, you simply head on to the Solana explorer Solscan.io by clicking the link next to "Contact Address" on the "Details" tab. The metadata can then be obtained by using the pertinent API.

Remember this well!

Metadata aids users in focusing on the ownership of NFTs as well as their tradability. Real-world applications of NFT technology are more effective thanks to instant access to this crucial data. Users who actively use metadata will encourage ecosystem stability and greatly enhance its value.

Many traders using platforms like OpenSea have a tendency to view metadata as technical information. Any seasoned trader, however, would understand how crucial it is to fully understand the NFTs they intend to buy.
