FC Barcelona is introducing its first-ever NFT to celebrate one of the best goals ever scored by one of its players. The digital asset from the Catalan club, labeled 'In a Way, Immortal,' commemorates club legend Johan Cruyff's memorable flying kick goal against Atlético Madrid in 1973.
"In a Way, Immortal" is the first of 10 NFT editions that the club will launch over the next several months, with each of the next nine featuring a famous occasion from the club's illustrious history.
Here are some more details about it!
The NFT is audiovisual in origin, with a dynamic, liquid gold animation representing Cruyff's incredible leap and shot, as well as a 40-second video clip with music from a 30-piece orchestra and authentic sound from the Camp Nou crowd.
The NFT is additionally supplemented by four more NFTs, each of which is a static image from the animated version. The five NFTs were created in partnership with BCN Visuals, a local digital super studio, and the World of Johan Cruyff organization. They took more than 10,000 hours to create in all.
It’s on Sotheby’s New York and has a lot of perks!
Sotheby's will sell the item in a hybrid auction. Online bidding already began on July 21st, with a special live auction scheduled for July 29th at Sotheby's New York. Online bidding will also continue during the live auction and can be placed in BTC, ETH, USDC, DOT, or fiat currency.
The NFT winner will also receive a slew of other FC Barcelona-related benefits and experiences, including becoming a Barça Digital Ambassador, meet-and-greets, visits to La Masia, which is the club's training facility, hospitality rights for at least five years, as well as the freedom to compete at the Spotify Camp Nou, and more.
