Manchester City is an English football team which usually competes in the Premier League. After several wins, which led them to become renowned on an international level and build a worldwide fan base, the team is looking to further engage with their community. This time, they are going digital! They are tapping into the metaverse by building the very first football stadium there.
Manchester City officials are already seeing the virtual stadium packed up and filled with people from all around the world.
How are they doing it?
With the help of virtual reality experts from Sony and in collaboration with the latter, Manchester City has signed a three-year agreement and initiated the construction process. Even though the project is still very young and there is a lot to go through before it is finalized, specialists have already conducted site visits, specifically to the Etihad Stadium, in order to start mapping it out.
So, now we know that the club is technically creating a digital or virtual version of Etihad Stadium. They will be using image analysis and skeletal-tracking technology, which has been developed and established by Hawk-Eye. Imagine watching the final game of Manchester City live from the other part of the planet while sitting with the gang on your comfy couch! What’s coming is insane, really!
