Minecraft is a video game which has been around since 2011. In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang Studios, Minecraft’s developer, for $2.5 billion, allowing for intense user growth! In 2020, it had 131 million active players and in 2021, more than 141 million are on Minecraft!
Today, they are going big! The Microsoft game is undergoing a Web3 update developed by specialists independent of the company. They are releasing a new project on Polygon servers named NFT Worlds. Polygon is a platform with a separate blockchain built on the Ethereum network. They provide users with lower gas fees and this is why Microsoft chose to base their Minecraft update there. That way, players will be able to buy Minecraft items using $WRLD tokens, benefiting from Web3 features.
So, what differentiates it?
As you know, Minecraft has been established on an open source, allowing anyone to build upon it, needed that they have the right amount of knowledge, technically. Now, its advantage is that it is an existing game with users already playing there. It is now providing its existing players with a unique metaverse experience, allowing them to become not only fans of the game, but also NFT collectors. This will also captivate new users to enter. It has also been noticed that in a 3-day period and on a test server, more than 26,000 player hours were logged on!
On NFT Worlds’ official Twitter account, the company tweeted on a video post, and we quote, “In-game $WRLD purchasing, transactions & the P2E $WRLD layer will be rolling out soon. Completely frictionless, no gas required to spend/transact $WRLD in an NFT World. In this demo video, we built a simple "Shop" using the $WRLD layer and bought an Apple in-game with $WRLD.”
What are the NFTs provided?
10,000 various and unique worlds are available for users, making the NFTs provided pieces of virtual lands. They are different in appearance as some have snowy tundra, some massive volcanoes, and some forest islands. The starting price or the minimum that you can buy with is set to around $38,150 or 14.5 Ethereum! This number has skyrocketed to 24.5 Ethereum today, after it has been dead or a while now!
