McDonald’s is going all-in on the metaverse!

Recently, McDonald’s has been showing high interest in the blockchain technology, starting with NFTs and now moving in on the metaverse. The company announced that it has filed 10 trademark applications related to services, goods and even virtual cafes and restaurants to be located in the metaverse.

So, what do they include, to be specific?

As per the company’s statement, the trademark requests include and we quote, “Operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods, operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery as well as on-line actual and virtual concerts.”

For the last couple of months, various companies, such as Nike, Sketchers, Samsung, Walmart, and Panera Bread, have released stores in the metaverse for fans and clients to take advantage of as well as buy and sell. Josh Gerban, a trademark lawyer, states, and we quote, “When you see this critical mass of large companies making this many new trademark filings, it’s very clear this is coming. I think you’re going to see every brand that you can think of make these filings within the next 12 months. I don’t think anyone wants to be the next Blockbuster and just completely ignore a new technology that’s coming.”

Panera Bread also has a say about this!

The CDO, or chief digital officer, of Panera Break, George Hanson, released a statement which says, “Panera is always working to be at the forefront of tech advancement. As a brand we are consistently looking for new ways to better our guest experience, whether in our cafes or in the metaverse.”

If everything goes as planned and the trademark applications proceed as normal, McDonald’s should be receiving the approval very soon. So, stay tuned for a totally virtual McDonald’s experience, from the restaurants to McCafe, and more!
