The French football club, Paris Saint-Germain, better known as PSG, is taking it to the next level when it comes to protecting their brand while engaging with their fans and community. After being legends in football, the club today is joining in on the NFT craze and the metaverse. So, what are they up to?
Trademark applications!
PSG has filed trademark applications which include video recordings, downloadable audio, media, and multimedia files with texts. They also include sports highlight videos as well as offline and online commodities in the form of NFTs. Moreover, an integrated crypto wallet has been added to PSG’s program.
Michael Kondoudis is the patent attorney who shared all of these info. He says, and we quote, “This filing represents the next logical step to protect the brand as it moves into the Metaverse. Clearly, PSG sees the potential of the Metaverse and is preparing its trademark for the virtual economy that will dominate it.”
They have already established a token!
Back in 2020, PSG signed up Lionel Messi, the football legend, as part of their club. This led them to have their own fan token kicked off in order to fund the latter’s contract. He did cost them a fortune, actually. So imagine the possibilities of NFTs and crypto! That’s not it. Kondoudis talks about this world’s future by saying, and we quote, “We expect the number of trademark filings from the professional sports sector for NFT and virtual products and services to increase over the next twelve months as brands come to appreciate the need for protections in the metaverse.”
